Young Doctors Summer School (In-Person)

Doctor holding a balloon (illustrating the Young Doctors Summer School)Embark on a fascinating journey into the wonderful world of medicine with the Young Doctors Summer School—an exploration tailored for curious minds aged 11-14.

The human body is a marvel of complexity, and when something goes wrong it can be hard to discover what the problem really is, and even harder to know what to do next. A doctor must be part scientist and part detective, and must also be kind and thoughtful enough to inspire the patient’s trust and confidence.

If you would like to learn more about this fascinating world and try your hand at solving medical puzzles for yourself, then the Young Doctors Summer School is for you!

The Summer School is structured so that more academic sessions are interspersed with fun and enjoyable activities which are designed to test and apply the theoretical knowledge gained. As well as seminars on what can go wrong with the heart, brain or lungs, students will take part in case study scenarios, where they take the role of practitioners and consultants – diagnosing and then recommending treatment options as part of a team.

For 2024 we will offer a two-day in-person course, covering some of the most important aspects of medical study, from cardiology to x-rays, including how to communicate effectively with patients and take a medical history.

See a more detailed outline for the course.

Taught by charismatic and inspiring medical students (see our tutors page), this course is ideal for young people who would like to get a real taste of what medical school might be like. It offers a great insight into life as a junior doctor, and whether a career in medicine might be something that they would enjoy.

The Young Doctors Summer School is not just an educational opportunity – it’s a chance to ignite a passion for medicine and explore the exciting possibilities that lie ahead.
