Introduction to Economics

This two-day Introduction to Economics course offers a perfect opportunity for students without any prior experience of the subject to grips with key concepts and questions. We will look at the role of important actors within the economic system, from workers and companies to hedge funds and governments, and at how their behaviour shapes our daily lives.

We will discuss how markets work and prices are set, how the value of money itself can change (and why it is changing rapidly at present), why there is so much disagreement on what governments can do to promote economic growth, and whether rising debt really matters. In short, this course will give you the basic conceptual frameworks and vocabulary to engage meaningfully with current economic news and debates.

Along the way there will be interesting stories and case studies, enjoyable group exercises and plenty of chance to discuss and debate with your fellow students.

All of our online courses consist of small seminar groups, with lots of opportunities for interaction with peers as well as learning from our expert tutors. This will be a fully live and interactive event, with a certificate of attendance issued upon completion of the course.

This style of learning is an excellent preparation for further study, and should give participants a real taste of economics as an academic subject, enabling students to make a more informed choice about future study or career options.
